Fitchburg State Names A Pair To All-Conference Team

Fahey named MASCAC Player of the Year; Valliere earns All-Conference first team honor

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 22, 2012) – The Fitchburg State women’s and men’s basketball teams each named one player to the 2011-12 MASCAC All-Conference teams as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) led all honorees, being tabbed the MASCAC’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Year in addition to her first team All-Conference honor, while junior Zach Valliere (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) represented the men’s teams with his first career All-Conference award.

Fahey collects her first Player of the Year accolade after witnessing a breakout season for the Falcons women’s basketball team. The sophomore forward led the team and league in scoring, averaging 23.6 ppg and 9.6 rebounds per contest. Fahey finished the season, shooting 51.1% from the field, while hitting 170-of-214 free-throws on the year.

On the men’s side, Valliere earns a MASCAC All-Conference first team honor after leading the Fitchburg State men’s basketball team to the MASCAC quarterfinals. Valliere ranked first on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging a near double-double with 14.7 ppg and 9.8 rebounds per contest. The junior center shot 47.7% from the field, while adding a team-best 41 blocks.

The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team concluded the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 16-9 and a 4-8 mark in the MASCAC, while the men’s squad finished with 13-12 overall mark and 4-8 clip in the conference.
