Fitchburg State Names A Pair To All-Conference Team

Valliere and Fahey collect All-Conference first team honors

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 21, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s basketball teams each named one player to the 2012-13 MASCAC All-Conference teams as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Zach Valliere (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) represented the men’s team with a MASCAC All-Conference first team honor, while junior Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) also brought in a first team nomination.

Valliere collects his second consecutive All-Conference accolade after leading the Fitchburg State men’s basketball team back to the post-season. Behind Valliere’s double-double average of 14.3 ppg and 10.2 rebounds per contest, the Falcons earned a spot in the 2012-13 MASCAC men’s basketball playoffs, notching the fifth-seed with an overall record of 13-10. Over the regular season, Valliere shot 46.9% from the field, while posting team-highs in points scored (343), rebounds (244) and blocks (59).

Fahey collects her second career All-Conference nod after sparking the Fitchburg State women’s basketball team to yet another post-season berth. Fahey led the Falcons in scoring all year, totaling a team-high 18.2 ppg on 53.7% shooting from the field. The junior sensation also led the Falcons in rebounding with 7.8 caroms per contest, while chipping in with 2.1 steals per game and 2.0 assists per game.   

The Fitchburg State men’s basketball team will be back in action this evening as it travels to top-seeded Westfield State University for the MASCAC semifinals beginning at 7 p.m. The women concluded their season with an overall record of 11-14 and a 4-8 clip in the MASCAC.
