MASCAC Releases Fall All-Sportsmanship Team

FITCHBURG, MA: 58 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) student-athletes have been recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship as members of the 2023 Fall Sportsmanship Team.

The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team in every sport that best demonstrates the values of the MASCAC and its Sportsmanship Statement, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.

“I want to congratulate the 58 student-athletes from across the seven teams who were recognized on the 2023 Fall MASCAC Sportsmanship Team”, Commissioner Angela Baumann said. “These student-athletes demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship values, which are a core mission in the MASCAC. We are privileged to recognize these individuals for displaying these honorable qualities.”

The sports that are represented on the fall team are men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball. A student-athlete from each institution is selected by their coach to be placed on the Sportsmanship Team.

Jack Owen of Bridgewater State, Michael Burns of Fitchburg State, Bruno Barbosa of Framingham State, Robert Wiltsie of MCLA, Troy Penney of Massachusetts Maritime, Jarrod Ledvina of Westfield State, and Matthew Talbot of Worcester State were named to the Sportsmanship Team from men’s cross country.

On this year’s Women’s Cross Country Sportsmanship Team are Ana Imrie of Bridgewater State, Erin Donelan of Fitchburg State, Amanda Bedard of Framingham State, Kristie Zator of MCLA, Marchella Corolla of Massachusetts Maritime, Grace Poplawski of Westfield State and Gillian McDonald of Worcester State.

Receiving the first-ever field hockey sportsmanship teams awards are Abby Massarelli of Bridgewater State, Sophia Piper of Fitchburg State, Peyton Coonan of Framingham State, Maddy Barry of Westfield State, and Sam Gastonguay of Worcester State.

Kicking off the Football Sportsmanship Team are James Cahoon of Bridgewater State, Matthew Aguirre of Fitchburg State, Terry Smith of Framingham State, Michael Levine of Massachusetts Maritime, Collin Crowe of Plymouth State, Carlos Goncalves-Robalo of UMass Dartmouth, Corey Tehe of WestConn, Cameron Danahy of Westfield
State and Melke Shabo of Worcester State.

Megan Keller of Bridgewater State, Ashley Porter of Fitchburg State, Abby Savard of Framingham State, Anna Lewis of MCLA, Ally Reddish of Massachusetts Maritime, Hannah Magee of Salem State, Michaella Moncecchi of Westfield State, and Hayley MacNeil of Worcester State are the Women’s Soccer Sportsmanship Team honorees.

In men’s soccer, Tyler Chang of Bridgewater State, Prince Banangoy of Fitchburg State, Bryce Borletto-McCray of Framingham State, Naiyar Fraser of MCLA, CJ Vincent of Massachusetts Maritime, Jonathan Chasse of Salem State, Collin O’Brien of Westfield State and David Cianci of Worcester State land on the Sportsmanship Team.

Closing out the 2023 Fall Sportsmanship squads is volleyball, where Bethany Votta of Bridgewater State, Shianne Harewood of Fitchburg State, Stella Bailey of Framingham State, Ellie Walter-Goodspeed of MCLA, Olivia Coffren of Massachusetts Maritime, Presely Shairs of Salem State, Olivia Harris of Westfield State and Jillian Gross of Worcester State are this year’s honorees.
