Robert Johnson - 1997 Inductee

After transferring to FSC in 1962, Mr. Johnson had a two-year career unparalleled in the annals of basketball at the college. As a junior he led the nation in scoring with an amazing 39.1 per game average. Mr. Johnson had three games in which he scored over 50 points. He was named third team All-America for his efforts and made the New England State Conference All-Star team.

As a senior he poured in 29.1 points per game and ranked in the top ten nationally once again. In just two seasons he scored 1196 total points. He was the first Fitchburg State player to reach the 1000 point plateau.

Mr. Johnson is currently a teacher in the Shirley Public School System. Over the years he has also worked in the Gardner School System and for the State Department of Education.

His wife Susan (McNamara) is a 1964 graduate of Fitchburg State. Their son Casey is a Harvard graduate and their daughter Kathleen graduated from Columbia.
