David Farnsworth - 1994 Inductee

David Farnsworth, a 1980 graduate, is the greatest sprinter ever to don the green and gold of Fitchburg State. His list of achievements, accrued through four seasons of both indoor and outdoor track, is simply astounding. As a senior he won the National Championship in both the 100 meters (10.66) and the 200 meters (21.18). He also earned All-America honors on two other occasions. "White Lightning" as he was known, won six New England Championships, two Eastern Championships and ten Mass. State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships.

In four years Farnsworth never lost a 200 meter or 220 yard race against New England competition - in any division. His 100 meter dash record of 10.3 has not been bested by any New England runner - in any division. The four-time team captain still holds five Fitchburg State records.

Farnsworth, a Leominster native, was a graduate of St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg. He currently teaches at St. Bernard's, where is also coaches girl's basketball. Farnworth returned to his collegiate alma matre to coach track from 1984-85 to 1987-88.
