Deidre Donovann - 2002 Inductee

Deirdre Donovan was an All-American in four different events during her standout career as an FSC track and field athlete. She helped win a national relay championship and was involved in two NCAA Championship records during relay events. Donovan earned All-New England honors six times while running indoor and outdoor track and field. She accomplished all this despite missing her senior season due to an illness.

While some freshman have difficultly adjusting to college athletics, Donovan seemed to thrive versus outstanding competition during the 1982-83 season. In the indoor season she scored in three events, including a Falcon win in the 4x400 meter relay at the EAIAW championship. During the outdoor season she helped set three ECAC relay records and earned All-ECAC accolades in three individual events while FSC captured the team title. Donovan and her Falcon teammates saved their best for last at the NCAA meet as they won the national mile relay title with a meet record time of 3:50.13. Donovan herself qualified for the national meet in four events and FSC finished sixth overall at the event.

During the 1983-84 campaign, Donovan enjoyed another outstanding outdoor season. She was an All-American and All- New England in the 400 meter run and, along with her teammates, helped FSC capture All-New England honors in the mile relay. Donovan and her 4x100 meter relay team set a new NCAA record (47.94) in the semifinals but were disqualified in the finals. FSC finished fifth at the national meet.

Donovan closed out her college career with an outstanding performance in 1984-85. She was an All-American in the long jump and finished seventh at the national indoor meet in the 55 meter dash. In the outdoor season, Deirdre earned All-American status in the 100 meter dash and was All-ECAC in three events and All-New England in two others.
