Joe Farias - 1994 Inductee

Joe Farias, graduated in 1953, after capping a career in which he became the college's first All-American in any sport. Behind his brilliant play at halfback, Fitchburg Teacher's College lost only three games during Farias' four years with the team. The two-year captain led FTC to four straight NETCC Championships and the school's first undefeated season in 1952 (4-0-3). Overall the team posted a 17-3-6 record with Farias at halfback.

His crowning acheivement came in the fall of 1951 when he was named All-America by the Intercollegiate Soccer Football Association of America (ICSFAA) for his performance in the 1950 season.

Following his graduation Farias went on to successfully teach for over 30 years. During this time he remained active in soccer at various levels. From 1968 to 1971 he coached the Fitchburg State varsity. In the early 1980's Farias was named to the Fitchburg Recreation Advisory Board. The former All-American remains a resident of Fitchburg.
