As a sophomore Gurney tied the school record with 71 points on 29 goals and a school record 41 assists. He is the only player in FSC history to record three 60 point seasons. Three times Gurney led the team in scoring. Over his brilliant four year career Fitchburg State registered an overall record of 74-36-1.
