Nancy (Savageau) Ellis - 2000 Inductee

The list of Nancy Savageau Ellis' individual accomplishments during her four years at Fitchburg State would be sufficient to fulfill one Division III school's list for their entire athletic history.

The four-year indoor and outdoor track star (two-time captain in each) was a four-time All-American, and a 13-time All-New England performer on the track for coach Jim Jellison. In her sophomore indoor campaign, Savageau Ellis set FSC records on her way to All-New England status in both the 400m (59.5) and as a member of the Falcons 4 x 220 relay team (1:48.8). Also, Savageau Ellis set school records in the 60-yard hurdles (9.34) and the 440 (61.0). During that outdoor season, All-New England status was earned in three events: 440-yard dash (64.8, an FSC record), the 400m hurdles, and as a member of the Sprint Relay team (1:50, an FSC record).

After running the first of two cross-country seasons for the Green and Gold, Savageau Ellis picked up where she left off in the prior indoor season. Helping lead her team to 2nd place at the EAIAW Championships, Savageau Ellis was named All-EAIAW in the 400m (59.7) and was on the EAIAW Champion 4x200m relay team (1:46.6). Savageau Ellis also set a school record in the 55m hurdles (8.7) at the Dartmouth Invitational. In outdoor track, the accolades kept coming for both FSC and Savageau Ellis. On the same day that Colleen Mason Bedard '83 became an All-American, Savageau Ellis followed suit by setting an FSC record on the way to collecting 5th place in the 400m (63.57). An All-EAIAW performer in the 400m hurdles (64.2) and on the 4x100m relay team (50.1), the team finished fourth n the EAIAW Championships. And while the team placed 10th in the New England Championships, they were helped to their status by Savageau Ellis' All-New England, 2nd place finish in the 400m hurdles (67.8).

And as many collegiate athletes do, Savageau Ellis clearly saved her best performances for her final season. In indoor track, Savageau Ellis garnered a New England Championship in the 400m (58.3, an FSC record) while also taking home All-New England honors in the 400m hurdles (62.5) and as a member of both the 4x100m and mile relay teams. These performances helped FSC to an 8th place finish in the New England Championships. Savageau Ellis' performances during her final spring campaign were even more impressive, as she was named an All-American on three different occasions: for finishing second in the 400m hurdles (58.3 - FSC record), as a member of the 4x100m relay team (3rd place, 48.9 - FSC record), and as a member of the 4x400 relay team (4th place, 3:56.48). Savageau Ellis also qualified nationally in the 400m dash, finishing in 7th place in helping her team to a 5th place finish overall. And in being a key contributor to her team's fourth place finish at the New England Championships, Savageau Ellis earned All-New England status in both the 400m (57.65 - FSC record) and on the 4x100m relay team.
