Scott Haverty - 1999 Inductee

Scot Haverty became Fitchburg State's first track & field National Champion during his senior year of 1976-77. Scot set the school-record, which still stands today, in the javelin with a distance of 228 feet, 10 inches. His team finished eleventh in the 1977 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Filed Championships. In that same year, Scott was the recipient of the FSC Sportsmanship Award. Scot's record was made all the more impressive because he was able to return from a knee injury that kept him out of the 1975-76 season.

As a freshman, he was the MASCAC Champion in the javelin and was ranked fourth in the NCAA, although he did not place in the NCAA meet. As a sophomore, Scot was a member of of the All-MASCAC Team by finishing second in the javelin with a distance of 175'6". His junior year was a sign of what was to come for his senior season. At the MASCAC Championships, Scot set the meet record in the javelin with a toss of 223'11". His team finished fourth and qualified for the NCAA Championsips. Scot also served as the track & field team assistant coach from 1979-80.
