Fitchburg State University Sportsmanship Pledge:

As a student-athlete representing Fitchburg State University, I will adhere to all policies related to appropriate sportsmanlike behavior as required by my institution, when representing my team, as well as while acting as a spectator when watching and supporting other campus sponsored athletic events.

As a Fitchburg State University student-athlete, I WILL NOT

1. Taunt or trash talk to opponents, officials, opposing coaching staffs, any event management personnel, and spectators.
2. Make any inappropriate gestures directed toward anyone connected to an event, including all those mentioned in (1) above.
3. Take purposeful physical actions clearly intended to hurt or harm any event participant or stakeholder (fighting or flagrant, avoidable physical contact).
4. Take purposeful actions to damage public or private property.
5. Participate or encourage profanity-driven chants or cheers at any conference events, regular season or otherwise. 
6. Make negative comments of a personal nature directed at participants, including players, team personnel, coaches, or officials. This includes comments related to calling event participants by name or number, singling out by physical characteristics including race, etc.
7. Display or create any signage that would be considered inappropriate or unsportsmanlike. All signage must be approved by the event administrator prior to display.

As a Fitchburg State University student-athlete, I WILL

1. Demonstrate respect for my opponent. Without them, there is no game.
2. Be respectful of the officials and their responsibility to conduct a safe and fair event.
3. Cheer loudly, proudly, and positively for my team in acceptable ways.
4. Be cooperative with the event management staff and respectful of their responsibilities to provide an enjoyable game-day environment for all spectators, including the opposition. I will remember sporting events are family events.
5. Play within the rules of the game at all times.
6. Participate in all end-of-game sportsmanship activities in a respectful manner.
7. Be aware of the fact that while I may not be competing, I am representative of my team, my athletics department, and the conference, and I am bound to the same expectations of appropriate behavior as those competing.

Cases of Fitchburg State University student-athletes found not abiding by the above standards will be subject to disciplinary actions by the team, the athletics department, and/or the conference, depending on the nature of the incidents involved.

 

MASCAC Sportsmanship Statement:

The Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) promotes good sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of competition.
