BOSTON, Mass. (April 8, 2011) – The Fitchburg State baseball team registered its second consecutive 20-hit attack last night as the Falcons rifled past Suffolk University, 19-7 at Adams Field.

With 26 hits in the contest, Fitchburg State established a new program single-game mark, surpassing the previous record of 24 set against Emerson College (4/21) during the 2004 season. Sophomores Jeff Boice (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and Cody Bamforth (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) led the Falcons hit parade with four hits apiece, while seniors John Phelan (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Erik DiMauro (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) both finished 3-for-6 on the night.

Junior Frank Yavorosky (Westminster, Mass./Narragansett Regional) and freshman David Mason (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) were also solid with three hits apiece, while senior David Alexander (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Trailing 5-0 after two innings of play, Fitchburg State surged ahead in the top of the fifth frame, exploding for 12 runs and 12 hits to post an eight run lead (13-5). The Falcons also took advantage of three Ram errors in the stanza, but seven two-out hits and a pair of walks proved to be the deciding factor. Senior Brian Ware (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) provided the big boost with a two-run double, while Bamforth laced a run scoring double and the Alexander/Boice combo notched a pair of RBI base-hits.

Fitchburg State added five more runs in the seventh using five hits and two more errors from the Rams. Phelan led off the inning with a double, followed by a Yavorosky walk. Alexander then reached base on an error and later scored as Mason connected for a two-run single. Senior Nick Rocheleau (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) capped the Falcons scoring with a sacrifice fly to drive home Mason.

On the hill, sophomore Tynan Flegg (Calgary, AB/National Sport Academy) improved to 2-3 on the season, tossing the first 5.2 innings for the Falcons. Flegg scattered eight hits throughout the contest, allowing six earned runs while striking out one. Sophomore Will Dawson (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) notched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, while classmate Zachary Bombria (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) wrapped up the contest with a scoreless ninth.
