Fitchburg State Routs Becker, 14-3

Boice finishes 5-for-6 to lead Falcons to non-conference victory

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 24, 2013) – Senior Jeff Boice (Glastonbury, Conn.) went five-for-six with three RBI to lead Fitchburg State to a 14-3 win over host Becker College in non-conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Rochdale Park in Leicester.

With the win, the Falcons of Fitchburg State are 14-19-1 while the Hawks of Becker fall to 8-23.

The Falcons scored two runs in the first and five in the second to jump out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. Five errors by Becker led to plenty of opportunities.

Junior first baseman Randy Ortiz, Jr. (Danielson, Conn.) went two-for-four with two RBI and two runs, while junior catcher Matt Zajac (New Hartford, Conn.) drove in two runs on his two hits. Senior shortstop AJ Silberman (Meriden, Conn.) had two hits and a walk, while scoring twice on the day.

Senior pitcher Cody Bamforth (Vernon, Conn.) earned his first win of the season with three shutout innings of relief, striking out two Hawks, while sophomore pitcher Brendan Cutler (Lancaster, Mass.) earned the save with three shutout innings while going two-for-two at the plate.

For the Hawks, senior right fielder Tom Natoli (Suffern, N.Y.) went two-for-four, scoring two runs. Junior designated hitter Taylor Kapulka (Worcester, Mass.) had an RBI base hit and scored a run, while junior first baseman C.J. Flanders (Londonderry, N.H.) went two-for-two at the plate while driving in another score 

Fitchburg State (14-19-1, 4-8 MASCAC) wraps up the regular season on Saturday as it visits Salem State at 12 p.m.
