Lyons Named MASCAC Rookie Of The Week

W. Roxbury, Mass. native earns first weekly honor of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 29, 2014) – Freshman Joe Lyons (W. Roxbury, Mass.) collects his first weekly honor of the season after being tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday evening.

Lyons batted .429 (9-for-21) with five runs scored and seven RBI in a 3-3 week for the Falcons. Joe collected a pair of hits, including a double and one RBI in the Green and Gold's series sweep over Bridgewater State on Monday before adding two hits, two runs scored and two RBI in Fitchburg State's 10-6 win over Becker on Thursday. The first-year Falcon concluded the week, going 5-for-8 with two runs scored and four RBI in a pair of contests against Westfield State on Sunday afternoon.

The Fitchburg State baseball team returns to action on Thursday as it visits the Owls of Westfield State University in first round action of the 2014 MASCAC baseball tournament. starting at 3 p.m.
