Fitchburg State Falls To Daniel Webster, 4-1

Falcons belt out ten hits despite non-conference setback

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 18, 2014) – The Fitchburg State baseball team hosted the Eagles of Daniel Webster College yesterday afternoon, falling 4-1 in non-conference action at Riccards Field.

With the setback, Fitchburg State drops to 17-12 on the year, while Daniel Webster improves to 7-14.

Despite racking out ten hits, Fitchburg State could not get on the board as starting pitching John Hickson tossed 6.2 strong innings for the Eagles. Freshman starter Jake Kelley (N. Chelmsford, Mass.) took the loss for the Falcons, yielding eight hits and three runs (zero earned) while striking out five.

At the plate, four Falcons registered multi-hit games, including freshmen Steven Drury, Jr. (Ashburnham, Mass.) and Joe Lyons (W. Roxbury, Mass.). Junior Patrick McMahon (W. Windsor, Conn.) was also solid with a 2-for-4 day, while senior David Mason (Leominster, Mass.) finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Fitchburg State will be back in action this afternoon as it battles MCLA in a key MASCAC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
