Fitchburg State Upended by Fisher College, 6-4

LYNN, Mass. - Fisher College surrendered a two-run lead before scoring four unanswered and snapping the five-game winning streak of the Fitchburg State baseball team with a final of 6-4 at Fraser Field.

Sophomore right hander Andrew Lessard got the start, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Lessard took the loss to fall to 0-5 on the season. Freshman Noah Millard followed with 2.2 innings of relief where he allowed one earned on two hits.

Junior Bryan DeJesus completed five innings of work before running into trouble in the sixth inning and being relieved by sophomore Matthew Trotta who recorded four scoreless innings to grab his third victory.

Fisher College jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after plating runs in back-to-back innings when a defensive miscue in the second allowed sophomore Haydell Alicea to score the game's first run.

Lessard went onto scatter just two hits over the next two innings on the mound before his team gave him the lead with scoring four off four walks in the top of the sixth – highlighted by a two RBI double from junior Sam Brown, the only hit in the inning for Fitchburg State (4-2).

In the home half of the sixth, Fisher College regained its advantage by striking for three runs as shortstop Reinaldo Moreta reached on an error before promptly being doubled home by catcher Andres Ruiz the next batter to spark the rally.

A few batters later he found his way home as right-fielder Kyle Anulao singled before scoring unearned from a passed ball later in the frame to jump ahead in the score (5-4).

In the bottom of the eighth Fisher College scored a much-needed insurance run as Anulao picked up his second hit of the ballgame before advancing to second on a balk, stealing third base, and coming around to score on a wild pitch (6-4).

Fitchburg State was then put down in order as Trotta delivered a one-two-three top of the ninth, securing the 6-4 win.

For Fitchburg State offensively, senior Roel Fernandez had a team-high two hits on a 2-for-4 night, driving in one. Luis Ortiz and Brown each finished with a double apiece and lead-off man Andrew Currie ended 1-for-4, scoring one run.

Fisher College's nine hits came mostly from four players as Sam Schroeder and Cody Mercier joined Anulao and Ruiz with 2-for-4 performances at the dish.

On the bases, Currie and Fernandez were successful on stolen-base attempts picking up one apiece and Anulao was swiped three of three.

The Fitchburg State defense was responsible for three errors and two unearned runs after having a perfect fieldeing percentage over the last four games.
