Baseball Announces Two Coaching Staff Additions

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University baseball team recently announced the hiring of assistant coaches Joe Consolmagno and Colin Clancy, who will be joining the Falcons coaching staff for the upcoming spring campaign.

Consolmagno comes to Fitchburg State after stints as an assistant baseball coach for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) in the summer of 2016,. This past season, Joe was assistant coach for Saint Peter Marian High School in Worcester.

"I am familiar with Joe's philosophies, having coached him at UMass Lowell, his intensity brings a lot to the program" said Fitchburg State head coach Kevin Barnaby. "Players have instantly respected the ideology he brings to the program having played for an NCAA Division I school."

Clancy also enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Falcons baseball team after serving as an assistant coach for the New England Titans 15U AAU baseball program out of Manchester, N.H. In addition, Colin spent last summer, serving as the head coach for the the North Chelmsford Post 313 Legion baseball team.

"Colin is fundamentally hard working and listens to what the other coaches bring to the program" said Barnaby. "Clancy is always trying to pick things up from the other coaches on the staff and is dedicated to making the Fitchburg State baseball program better."

In addition, assistant coach Randy Ortiz returns as well for his third season as an assistant coach for the Falcon. This season, Randy will be making the transition from the outfielders and hitting coach to the Falcons pitching coach.

"This move helps further Randy's career and the pitchers have responded very well to what he has been telling them." Barnaby said. "Making this transition has allowed me to bring in Joe and Colin."

The Fitchburg State baseball team is slated to open its 2018 season on Saturday, March 24th as the Falcons travel to Anna Maria to take on the AMCATS for a non-conference matchup, starting at 12 P.M.
