Baseball Picked Fourth In Pre-Season Poll

Falcons notch 28 points in 2018 MASCAC Coaches Poll

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State baseball team was recently picked fourth overall in the 2018 MASCAC Baseball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

The Owls of Westfield State University were selected to win the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball championship in a vote of the league's coaches after the reigning MASCAC regular season champions received five first place vote for a total of 45 points, while Salem State was selected second with a total of 39 points, including one first place ballot.

Sitting in third is the reigning MASCAC baseball post-season tournament champions, Worcester State after collecting 35 points, which included the one first place vote, while Fitchburg State was slotted to finish fourth with total of 28 points, including the final first place ballot.

Tying the Falcons for fourth was Framingham State with 28 points, while Massachusetts Maritime Academy followed in sixth with 18 points. MCLA was slotted to finish seventh with 16 points, while the Bears of Bridgewater State rounded out this year's MASCAC pre-season poll in the eighth spot with a total of 15 points.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
