How It Happened

GAME 1

Senior Andrew Currie (Quincy, Mass.) sliced a hit down the right field line with two outs scoring Drew Mazzeo (Leicester, Mass.) from third base and propel the Falcons past the Bears 6-5 in eight innings.

Bridgewater took a 4-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first inning on a 2-RBI single to left field off the bat of Alex Carey (East Bridgewater, Mass.).  Sophomore Sean Casey (Braintree, Mass) and classmate Lewis Robinson (New Britain, Conn.) each added RBI singles to give the Bears the advantage through the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the third Noah Milliard (Leominster, Mass.) singled through the infield scoring Brandon Lefebvre (Leominster, Mass.) from second base for the Falcons' first run.

After Bridgewater added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, the hosts battled back to tie the game at 5-5.  With runners on first and second, Currie singled to right field scoring Mazzeo. Two batters later, and with two outs Brennan Cuddahy (Leominster, Mass.) deposited a 2-RBI base hit to center field to make it 5-4.  Sophomore Timothy Horton (Northampton, Mass.) scored the game-tying run on a defensive miscue from Bridgewater, to set up the Curry heroics in the eighth inning.

Junior Andrew Dunn (Danvers, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season in relief. He threw 1.1 innings allowing just one hit with a strikeout for the victory. Junior Shawn Smeglin (Wakefield, Mass.) took the loss for the Bears allowing one earned run on three hits over an inning of relief.

GAME 2

In the second game of the twinbilll, the Falcons quickly built a 3-0 lead. Freshman Nicholas  Cordeau (Melrose, Mass.) opened the first frame with a hard single up the middle and scored two batters later on Sean Maki's (Fitchburg, Mass.) fielder's choice.

The hosts added two in the second inning, manufacturing a pair off a bases loaded walk to Cordeau and a sacrifice fly from Curry. That would be all the run support pitcher Richard Sharp (Townsend, Mass.) would need en-route to the 3-0 final. Sharp scattered three hits and three strikeouts over seven innings for the complete game shutout and his first win of the season.
