Falcons Baseball Draft Gabriel Cronin from Team IMPACT

Fitchburg, Mass. - Fitchburg State University's Baseball Head Coach Kevin Barnaby officially welcomed Gabriel Cronin to his squad through a Team IMPACT Draft Day event on Wednesday afternoon at Landry Arena.

Cronin, who just turned seven years old, becomes the Falcons' fourth Team IMPACT teammate to be paired with a FSU program thanks to the nonprofit organization.

"I don't think we could have picked a better day as we start our playoff push, to add someone who has such energy, to help us through the grind of the conference tournament." Said Barnaby at yesterday's press conference, "While Gabe was being recruited we experienced his strength, perseverance and toughness as he made many of our practices and games, throughout the unseasonable spring schedule."

Gabe was welcomed to the Falcons' Family by the baseball coaching staff and all of his Falcon teammates. He was accompanied by his mom (Rachel) and two sisters, Haylie (8) and Lily (6).

The young Gardner resident was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in May of 2016. He endured 14 cycles of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation. He is just over one year off of chemotherapy and is doing very well. Although Gabe is not currently in treatment he does have frequent doctors' appointments and testing to make sure he stays in good health.

Gabe has a big personality, enjoys making friends and is very outgoing. His dream vacation destination is Florida, he loves all the Marvel movies and would like to have dinner with Captain America and Spiderman. He hopes that his time with the Falcons' baseball team will definitely inspire them on and off the field.

Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes.
