Baseball Picked Second In Pre-Season Poll

Falcons notch 34 points in 2020 MASCAC Coaches Poll

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State baseball team was recently picked second overall in the 2020 MASCAC Baseball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.

Westfield State, the reigning MASCAC regular season and post-season tournament champions were the MASCAC Baseball pre-season favorites to repeat after collecting four first place ballots for a total of 44 points to outdistance second place Fitchburg State's total of 34 points, which included the one first place ballot

Framingham State followed in the third slot with 32 points, while the Lancers of Worcester State were picked to finish fourth with 31 points, which included two first place votes. Salem State was next in fifth with 29 points, while the Bridgewater State Bears are sitting in the sixth spot.

Rounding out the 2020 MASCAC Baseball Pre-Season poll were Massachusetts Maritime Academy and MCLA in seventh and eighth with 21 points and seven points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
