Five Falcons Garner Baseball All-Conference Honors

May Named Player of the Year, Manfredo Named Coach of the Year

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Zachary May (Rochdale, Mass.) was named the 2021 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Year and second-year head coach Shawn Manfredo was named MASCAC Baseball Coach of the Year as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. In addition four members of the baseball team were named to the 2021 MASCAC All-Conference Teams. 

Seniors Nicholas Cordeau (Melrose, Mass.) and Johan Asencio (Clinton, Mass.) joined May on the MASCAC All-Conference First Team, Matthew Pingitore (Rutland, Mass.) earned MASCAC All-Conference Second Team honors as voted on by the league's head coaches.

May, a senior first baseman paced the Falcons with a .397 batting average while slugging .692 and appeared in all 23 games for the Green and Gold this season. He led the team in home runs (5), RBI (23), hits (31) and runs scored (24). Zach led the league in home runs and RBI's. For the season he had eight multi-hit games and reached base safely in all but one game.

Cordeau picks up his third MASCAC All-Conference honor after posting a .366 batting average with 26 hits, two doubles, two home runs, 20 runs scored, 9 RBI and 13 steals, while Asencio earns his first MASCAC All-Conference accolade after hitting .307 (23-for-75), including seven doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI, and 11 runs scored in 21 games for the Green and Gold.

On the second team, Pingitore collected his first All-Conference selection, batting .286 with 18 hits, 8 runs scored, and 10 RBI while he backboned the Fitchburg State pitching staff.

Rounding out the MASCAC All-Conference Honors for the Fitchburg State baseball team was Manfredo, who guided the Falcons to a 7-3 MASCAC record and the school's first MASCAC Regular Season Championship. The Falcons were the #1 seed in the 2021 MASCAC Baseball Post-Season Tournament.
