Ward, May Sign with Pecos League

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State University senior first baseman Zachary May (Rochdale, Mass.) and senior pitcher Aiden Ward (Dunstable, Mass.) have signed to play professionally with the Trinidad Triggers of the Pecos League an Independent Baseball League located in Trinidad, Colorado.

Ward, made 27 appearances for the Falcons over his three-year career. He posted a 7-4 record with a 5.56 ERA allowing 98 hits, 64 run and 68 K's in 81.0 innings of work.

"Aidan Ward was a versatile and hardworking member of the Falcons pitching staff with a fastball reaching the low 90s," said Falcons Head Coach Shawn Manfredo. "His durability allowed him to pitch in multiple roles and he was a foundational piece to the 2021 FSU team. I couldn't be happier that he is getting an opportunity to pitch professionally, if anyone deserves a shot it is certainly Aidan."

May, who was named the 2021 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference played in all 23 games for the Falcons. He batted .397 (31-for-78) with 24 runs scored, eight doubles, five home runs, and 23 RBI. Recently he was named Third Team All-New England by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings.

"Zach May, being the reigning MASCAC Player of the Year, is known around New England as a top hitter having almost won a triple crown this past season offensively.  He's also a great defender at first base having a 1.000 fielding percentage on the season and picked up 3 saves as a pitcher." Quoted Manfredo.  "That kind of skill set is very attractive at the next level, combine that with a high level baseball IQ. We are very excited to see what May can do with this opportunity.   The fact that they are both going to play for the same team is a bonus, Falcons fans can follow the same box scores to keep an eye on both of them."

Both players are expected to contribute right away. Ward is slated to pitch season opener today for the Triggers, while May will be in the line-up batting second and playing outfield.
