Owls Overtake Baseball in Non-Conference Action

KEENE, NH: Fitchburg State baseball fell this afternoon to the Owls of Keene State in non-conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/2/24

- Score: Keene 7, Fitchburg 4

- Records: Keene (9-12), Fitchburg (6-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Keene scored five in the first three innings, with their biggest inning coming in the third, when they plated four. That inning was highlighted by Hamilton Barnes, who hit an infield single that plated one with an error, causing another to score.

The Falcons scored four runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA) brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Fitchburg's biggest inning came in the fifth after Adam Koza (Windham, MA) hit a three-run shot to deep left field.

- Keene would extend their lead in the sixth and seventh by scoring one per inning to clinch the win. Barnes would top the Owls with two hits in three at-bats and one run batted in.  

 - The Falcons were topped by Koza, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Abt brought in the only other run scored by Fitchburg on his sacrifice fly. He would also add on a double, as he went 1-for-3 on the day.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Jason Bickford (Exeter, NH) (L, 2-4) suffered the loss after going 3.2 innings. He allowed four hits, five runs with one earned, five walks, and four strikeouts.

  Jake Jachym (W, 1-2) got the win after pitching five innings, surrendering six hits, four runs, and two strikeouts.
