Dellechiaie Earns New England Football Writers' Association Gold Helmet
FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State sophomore quarterback Garrett Dellechiaie was awarded New England Football Writers' Association Gold Helmet after a strong performance last week.
The sophomore quarterback earns the prestigious weekly honor after throwing for a career-best 409 yards, completing 31-of-46 passing attempts with a pair of touchdowns in the Falcons 21-17 comeback victory over MASCAC rival Bridgewater State University on Friday evening.
Dellechiaie became just the third Falcon to earn NEFWA Gold Helmet Award, joining former Fitchburg State standout running back D'Andrea Freeman in 1999 and former kicker Treavor Smith in 2003.
This gold helmet is presented to the Division I-FCS, II and III football player who has established himself for outstanding contributions to his team on the given week, and is presented the award at Harvard University at a luncheon amongst the regions coaches.
The Fitchburg State football team (3-1, 1-1 MASCAC) returns to action on Saturday afternoon at it hosts the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy at 1:30 p.m.
