Falcons Upended By Rams, 26-7

B. Brown registers fifth rushing TD in conference setback

Framingham Mass. – The Fitchburg State University football team dropped a 26-7 decision the Rams of Framingham State University this afternoon at the Maple Street Field in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action.

How It Happened

Framingham State took an early 7-0 lead with 9:18 remaining in the first quarter as junior quarterback Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn./Bunneil) found senior wide out Napoleon Miller (Dorchester, Mass./Newton North) for the seven yards out, capping a nine play, 42 yard drive.

The Rams extended their margin (13-0) early in the second quarter when Miller hauled in a 37 yard pass from Wojenski for his second touchdown of the contest to polish off a five play, 42 yard drive.

Following half time, Framingham State upped its lead with 11:26 left in the third quarter as senior running back Quron Wright (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) found the end zone with a 30 yard run to make the score 20-0.

Fitchburg State cut into the deficit midway through the third stanza when freshman quarterback Brandon Brown (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) scrambled seven yards before crossing the goal line for his fifth rushing touchdown on the season.

The Rams, capped the scoring with 4:47 remaining in the final frame as sophomore Mike Calicchio (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) corralled a 17 yard pass from Wojenski in the back of the end zone to complete a six play, 45 yard drive, resulting in the 26-7 final.

Inside the Numbers

34th meeting between the two teams on the gridiron with the Falcons currently 11-23-0 all-time when taking on the Rams.

Framingham State has won the last ten meeting with Fitchburg State, including a 32-16 decision last season at Elliot Field.

Fitchburg State was led by senior Sterlin Garvin (Canton, Mass./Canton), who ran for 73 yards on 19 carries, while junior Jesse Brown (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and freshman Kevin Quinn (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) combined for ten catches and 65 yards receiving.

For Framingham State, Wojenski completed 13-of-23 passes for 155 yards and three TD's, while Wright added a game-best 107 yards on the ground and one score.

Defensively, sophomore defensive lineman Caleb Gonsalves (Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee) paced the Falcons with a team-best eight stops on six solo tackles and two assisted stops as well as 2.5 TFL's, while junior defensive back Richard Austin (Wareham, Mass./Wareham) posted seven tackles on four solo stops and one assisted tackle.

For the Rams, sophomore linebacker Anthony Behonick (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett Regional) collected seven total tackles on six solo stops and one assisted tackle, while junior Rufus Rushins (Lynn, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) registered six tackles on five solo tackles and one assisted stop.

Freshman receiver Anthony Santiago (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) notched his first collegiate reception for the Green and Gold in the setback.
