Plymouth, N.H. – The Fitchburg State University Football team returned to action this afternoon, dropping a 28-0 decision to the Panthers of Plymouth State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Currier Field.

How It Happened

Plymouth State opened the scoring with 5:17 left in the first quarter as senior quarterback Zack Edwards (Brookfield, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) capped a three-play, 53 yard drive with a six yard touchdown run for the 7-0 advantage.

The Panthers doubled their lead (14-0) midway through the second quarter when junior Nick Lancia (Bedford, Mass./Fox Lane) plunged in from a yard out to finish a 13-play, 95 yard drive that started at the Plymouth State five yard line..

The hosts extended their margin with just over one minute left before the half as junior David Hamilton (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) found the end zone for a one yard rushing TD to make the score 21-0.

Following the break, Plymouth State capped the scoring early in the third frame when Hamilton collected his second rushing touchdown of the contest, this one from three yards out, resulting in the 28-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

11th meeting between the two teams on the gridiron with the Falcons currently 3-8-0 all-time when taking on the Panthers.

Plymouth State has won the last three contests against Fitchburg State, including a 24-7 decision last season at Elliot Field.

Offensively for the Falcons, junior Connor Fitzsimons (Flushing, N.Y./Fort Hamilton) completed 7-of-13 passes for 53 yards, while senior running back Sterlin Garvin (Canton, Mass./Canton) ran for 99 yards on 29 carries.

Junior receiver Jesse Brown (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) hauled in six passes for 41 yards, while on the defensive side of the ball, senior Jovon White (Meriden, Conn./Orville Platt) and freshman Nolan Creonte-Baird (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) collected one interception each for the Green and Gold.

Falcons will travel to UMass Dartmouth next Saturday to take on the Corsairs for a MASCAC tilt starting at 12:00 PM. Panthers will host Husson College on the same day for a non-conference bout at 12:00 PM.
