Salem State Edges Fitchburg State, 1-0 (OT)
Ta. Van Ahnen records a season-high ten saves despite loss
SALEM, Mass. (September 27, 2008) - The Fitchburg State field hockey team was edged 1-0 in overtime by Salem State College in Little East Conference action this afternoon at Alumni Field.
Salem State sophomore Katie LaPrad (Spencer, Mass./David Prouty Regional) scored the lone goal for the Lady Vikings to earn their fifth victory of the season. LaPrad was awarded a penalty stroke opportunity at the 6:06 mark in the overtime period and buried a wrist shot into the far right-hand corner to decide the verdict.
Salem State out-shot Fitchburg State 12-7 in the contest and posted an 8-2 advantage in corners. Sophomore Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) totaled a season-high ten saves in the complete game effort for the Falcons, while sophomore goaltender Jessica McKenna (Rowley, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) collected three saves for the Lady Vikings.
Fitchburg State (3-4, 1-2 LEC) is back in action on Wednesday as it hosts UMass Dartmouth at 4 p.m. Salem State (5-2, 2-0 LED) will travel to Bridgewater State College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
