Plymouth State Soars Past Fitchburg State, 9-0

Valentin collects career best 18 saves for Falcons

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (October 12, 2013) – Junior forward Emily Davis (Boscawen, N.H.) registered a hat trick as Plymouth State defeated Fitchburg State, 9-0 in Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey action this afternoon at Arnold Field.

Plymouth State jumped out to an early lead just 1:53 into the opening frame as Davis notched her third tally of the season. The junior forward received a feed from junior forward Nikki Garvey (Canaan, N.H.) and fired a shot into the left side of the cage for the 1-0 advantage.

The Panthers doubled their lead (2-0) in the ninth minute of action when Garvey redirected a shot off the stick of senior Lauren Carroll (Rollinsford, N.H.) in front of the cage for her team-leading 16th tally of the year.

The hosts took a 5-0 margin into the break as freshman Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) connected for her eighth tally on the season at the 25:39 before notching her second score of the contest less than two minutes later, before Davis collected her second score of the match to close out the scoring in the first stanza.

In the second half, Plymouth State added four more tallies on goals from Carroll, Davis, freshman Allison Lemay (Westbrook, Maine) and classmate Nicole Burgess (Mexico, Maine), resulting in the 9-0 final.

Throughout the match, Plymouth State held a commanding 45-2 advantage in shots, while also holding an 11-6 margin in penalty corners. In the cage, sophomore Judith Valentin (Brockton, Mass.) recorded a career best 18 saves in 39:48 minutes of action for the Falcons, while junior Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) made a pair of first half stops en-route to her third victory of the season for Plymouth State.

Fitchburg State (4-8, 0-7 LEC) will be back in action again next Saturday as it hosts the Colonials of Western Connecticut State at 2 p.m. Plymouth State (7-4, 6-1 LEC) will visit Salem State next Saturday at 12 p.m.
