Fitchburg State Clipped By Framingham State, 2-1

Hoffman registers lone marker for Falcons 

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Junior forward Cady Kelly netted a pair of markers as the Framingham State field hockey team defeated Fitchburg State, 2-1 in Little East Conference (LEC) action this morning at Elliot Field.

In the opening stanza, Framingham State took the lead in the 17th minute of action as Kelly collected a rebounded shot off the stick of newcomer Amie Souza and deposited the ball inside the near post for the 1-0 margin.

The Falcons knotted the score at the 26:46 mark when sophomore Stephanie Stearns inserted the ball of a penalty corner classmate Madeline Hoffman  at the top of the circle, who then blasted a shot into the back of the cage for her second tally on the season to make the score 1-1 going into intermission..

Following the break, the Rams regained the lead with just over twenty minutes remaining in the contest as Kelly tucked the ball inside the far post for her second score of the game, using an assist from Souza, resulting in the 2-1 final.

Throughout the match, Fitchburg State controlled the offensive front, outshooting Framingham State by a 21-10 margin, while the Rams held a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners. In the cage, sophomore Judith Valentin posted four stops for Fitchburg State in 53:58 minutes of action, while junior Rosemary Talbot made ten saves for the Rams in the complete game effort.

Fitchburg State (4-6, 1-4 LEC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it visits Westfield State University at 7 p.m. Framingham State (5-6, 1-4 LEC) will host Bridgewater State University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
