Fitchburg, Mass. - Fitchburg State University's sophomore Molly Richard scored her team leading 14th goal to lead the Falcons to a 2-0 shutout over the Salem State University Vikings on Saturday evening at Elliot Field in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup.

In a pre-game ceremony the Falcons honored their four seniors, Madeline Hoffman, Erin Morrissey, Emily Petit and Nicole Fors for their contributions to FSU field hockey.

Salem State's goaltender Carolyn Woodin turned in an outstanding performance between the pipes turning back 24 of 26 shots peppered at the junior by the Falcons potent offense. Falcons' netminder Brittany Linane earned her ninth win of the season.

Fitchburg State's first goal came in the 16th minute when Ricard created her own opportunity slicing through the Viking defense then drilled a shot low and away to the bottom left corner of the cage.

Following the intermission, Bailey Miller would double the lead just two minutes into the second frame as Miller potted an insurance goal off a set corner play pass from Hoffman.

The Falcons shutout the opponents for the remaining 33 minutes of play, and came away with the 2-0 conference victory.

With the win, the Falcons advance to 9-4 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Vikings suffer the loss and slip to 1-11 on the season (0-10 LEC).
