Anastasia and DeHorsey propel Fitchburg to key LEC victory 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team scored a pair of second half goals to defeat the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine in Little East Conference (LEC) action this evening at Elliot Field

How It Happened

Southern Maine opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest as senior forward Kaitlin Hilton (Saco, Maine) fired a shot into the back of the net for second tally on the year after collecting a rebound in front of the net following a defensive stop by senior Rachael Denning (Salem, N.H.) for the 1-0 margin going into the break.

In the second half, Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) at the 45:11 mark when senior midfielder Kerra Anastasia (Mansfield, Mass.) gathered a feed from junior Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass.) and fired a shot into the lower left corner for her second goal of the season.

The Green and Gold took the lead in the 63rd minute of action as sophomore Aislinn DeHorsey (Leominster, Mass.) settled a loose ball in front of the cage and slipped a shot into the back of the net for her team-leading eighth marker on the year, resulting in the 2-1 final.

Inside the Numbers

36th meeting between two schools in field hockey with the Falcons 10-25-1 when taking on the Huskies.

Fitchburg State has won the last four meeting with Southern Maine. With the Huskies last win over the Falcons occurring on Nov. 2, 2013 (5-4).

Sophomore goaltender Kasey Mammone (Leominster, Mass.) made two second half saves for the Falcons en-route to her second win on the season, while freshman McKenzie Cormier (Hiram, Maine) made four saves for the Huskies in the complete game effort.

Southern Maine held a 10-7 advantage in shot, while Fitchburg State finished with 7-4 margin in penalty corners.

The Fitchburg State field hockey team held its sixth annual "Play 4 The Cure" game this evening with donations going to benefit the National Foundation For Cancer Research.
