Falcons Soar Past Bulldogs, 10-0

Salcedo nets first collegiate point in non-conference victory 

Franklin, Mass. – Senior forward Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass./Saint Bernard's) tallied four goals as the Fitchburg State University field hockey team defeated the Bulldogs of Dean College, 10-0 in non-conference action this morning at Grant Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State took a 1-0 lead just 1:22 into the contest as senior Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass./Saint Bernard's) found the back of the cage for her third tally on the season. The Falcons doubled their margin (2-0) minutes later when freshman Sarah Craig (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont Regional) collected a feed from sophomore Sophia Laperle (Auburn, Mass./Auburn), who connected on her fourth goal of the year.

The Green and Gold would take a 6-0 advantage into the break as sophomore Nicole Tocco (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester), Craig, Laperle and junior Aislinn DeHorsey (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) added scores to close out the half for the visitors

Following the break, Fitchburg State extended its lead (8-0) at the 36:51 mark when Richard netted her second goal of the contest before freshman Yuleinny Salcedo (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence) found Tocco in front for the cage for her second score of the game, resulting in the 10-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest will mark the first ever meeting between the Falcons and Bulldogs in the sport of field hockey.

In the cage, Bryant went untested in the contest for the Falcons, en-route to her second career shutout for the Falcons, while freshman Amari Dias (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) made six saves for the Bulldogs in the setback.

Richard concluded the contest with a game-best ten shots for Fitchburg State.

Fitchburg State finished with a 27-0 advantage in shots, while also holding an 9-1 edge in penalty corners.

Falcons will travel Rivier University on Tuesday to take on the Raiders for a non-conference matchup, starting at 7:00 PM. Bulldogs will visit New England College on the same date for an NECC tilt with a 7:00 PM start.
