Gladu nets first goal of the season for Fitchburg State in LEC setback 

Salem, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a tough 2-1, double overtime decision to the Vikings of Salem State this afternoon in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Alumni Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 10:51 mark as junior Chloe Gladu (North Reading, Mass.) collected a feed from senior Olivia Grant (Portsmouth, N.H.) and deposited the ball into the back of the net for her first tally on season for the 1-0 edge.

Salem State knotted the score (1-1) in the 17th minute of play when freshman Mikayla Mason (Beverly, Mass.) connected on her second goal of the year off an assist from junior Jillian Danton (Arlington, Mass.).

Neither team would find the back of the cage in the second half as Falcon keeper Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) turned aside a pair of shots to force the overtimes before the Vikings broke the 1-1 stalemate 1:38 into the second overtime with sophomore Allison Couillard (Tewksbury, Mass.) netted the game winner, resulting in the 2-1, double overtime final.

This afternoon's contest will mark the 40th meeting between the two teams in the sport o field hockey with the Falcons 16-22-2 all-time when taking on the Vikings

Fitchburg St had won the nine of the last ten matchups with Salem State, including a 4-3 triumph last season at Alumni Field

Salem State finished with a 5-1 edge in shots as well as holding a 7-2 margin in penalty corners

Lamprey made two saves for the Falcons in the setback
