Falcons Drop 2-0 Decision To Corsairs

Lamprey stops 14 shots for Fitchburg State in conference setback 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team suffered a tough 2-0 setback to the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth this morning in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Elliot Field as the Falcons hosted their annual Play 4 The Cure Game to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly opened the scoring at the 6:53 mark when junior Yuleinny Salcedo (Lawrence, Mass.) put a shot on frame, but Corsair keeper Katelyn Banalewicz (Fall River, Mass.) turned the shot aside.

UMass Dartmouth grabbed a 1-0 lead with 1:02 remaining in the half as junior Hannah Steen (Fall River, Mass.) converted a penalty stroke for her second tally on the season.

Following the intermission, the Corsairs upped their margin at the 44:07 mark with junior Brittany Perry (Dighton, Mass.) redirected a shot a shot off the stick of sophomore Kylie Dias (Fall River, Mass.) into the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the year, resulting in the 2-0 final

This morning's contest marked the 22nd meeting between the two squads in the sport of field hockey with the Falcons 7-15 all time when taking on the Corsairs

Fitchburg State had won two of the previous three matchups against UMass Dartmouth, including a 3-0 decision last season at Elliot Field

UMass Dartmouth held a 19-4 advantage in shots, while also holding a 10-3 edge in penalty corners

Freshman Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) stopped 14 shots for the Falcons in the setback

Banalewicz made two saves, en-route to her third shutout of the season for the Corsairs in the victory
