Arpano Collects Two Defensive Saves


Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine in Little East Conference (LEC) action this evening at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

The Huskies notched two goals in the first frame to take the early lead and cruise to the 3-0 win over the host Falcons.

Senior Dorina Sirois (Saco, Maine) collected her eighth and ninth goals of the season just over two minutes apart in the first quarter to give the Huskies the lead.

Freshman Marlaina Stickney (Gardiner, Maine) notched her first collegiate goal with just under a minute remaining in the game for the 3-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

This evening's contest will marked the 39th meeting between the two teams in the sport of field hockey with the Falcons currently 11-27-1 all-time when taking on the Huskies.

In the cage, freshman Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) stopped 15 shots for the Falcons, while sophomore Lindsay Pych (West Milford, NJ) posted four saves for her tenth win of the season.

Freshman Maddison Arpano (Lunenburg, Mass.) collected a pair of defensive saves, while senior Olivia Grant (Portsmouth, NH) added a DS for Fitchburg State.

Southern Maine held a 19-7 margin in shots, while also finishing with a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Falcons are off until next Tuesday night (10/29) when they will travel to Castleton to take on the Spartans for a LEC tilt at 7:00 PM. University of Southern Maine will travel to UMass Dartmouth to take on the Corsairs on Saturday for an LEC matchup, starting at 7:00 PM.
