Lamprey stops four shots for Fitchburg State in conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team suffered a tough 2-0 setback to the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State this afternoon in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Following a scoreless first quarter, Eastern Connecticut State grabbed the lead in the 17th minute of action as senior Khiara Valentine (Morristown, N.J.) gathered a feed from sophomore Bryce Makula (Guilford, Conn.) and found the back of the cage for her fifth goal on the season for the 1-0 edge.

The Warriors nearly doubled their margin late in the frame when senior Amy Smith (Trumbull, Conn.) fired a shot on frame, but Falcon keeper Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) turned the shot aside to keep the score at 1-0 going into the intermission.

In the second half, Eastern Connecticut State upped its lead at the 39:07 mark with sophomore Brianna Nolan (Guilford, Conn.) collecting a loose ball in front of the cage and slipping a shot inside the far post for her fourth marker of the 2019 campaign, resulting in the 2-0 final.

This afternoon's contest marked the 20th meeting between the two squads in the sport of field hockey with the Falcons 10-10 all time when taking on the Warriors

The two teams had split the previous four matchups (2-2) with the Falcons securing a 3-1 victory last season at Elliot Field

Eastern Connecticut finished with a an 11-5 margin in shots, while also holding a 3-1 edge in penalty corners

Prior to the contest, the Fitchburg State field hockey team honored one senior, playing in her final regular season contest with the senior being #8 Olivia Grant (Portsmouth, N.H.)

Freshman Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) stopped five shots for the Falcons in the setback

Junior Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn.) made two saves for the Warriors in the victory

 

Freshman Maddison Arpano (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Grant made one defensive save each for the Green and Gold
