Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State University this evening in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Coughlin Field.

How It Happened

Worcester State took the lead 5:19 into the first quarter as junior Karalyn Jones (Wilbraham, Mass.) received a pass from classmate Emily Floury (Warren, Mass.) and found the back of the cage for her third goal of the season.

The Lancers doubled their advantage with just over five minutes remaining in the second quarter when Jones notched her second marker of the contest off an assist from Floury. Fitchburg State nearly cut into the lead later in the frame with sophomore Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) fired a shot on frame, but Worcester State keeper Sam Gastonguay (Ashburnham, Mass.) turned the shot aside to preserve the 2-0 edge going into the break.

Following the intermission, Worcester State upped its margin (3-0) in the 39th minute of action when Floury found Jones for her third tally on the evening. The Lancers secured the victory with seven minutes left in regulation as Jones deposited the ball inside the near post her fourth marker of the game, resulting in the 4-0 final.
