Field Hockey Held Scoreless by Owls in Conference Action

WESTFIELD, MA: Fitchburg State field hockey fell to Westfield State this evening in conference action by a score of 2-0.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 10/13/23

- Score: Westfield 2, Fitchburg 0

- Records: Westfield (8-7, 5-2 MASCAC), Fitchburg (3-9, 2-5 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  It was a scoreless game going into the third quarter. Westfield had outshot the Falcons 11-1 up to the 40th minute of the contest when the Owls finally made it past Fitchburg's goalie Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA). Emily Martin found the back of the net to give Westfield a 1-0 lead. Kaleigh Murphy was credited with the assist.

- Just under a minute later, Corryn Moroney tipped one past a diving Morse. Skyla Harthcock had the original shot that Moroney deflected to get the final score.

- Morse was tagged with the loss (3-9) after doing all she could to keep the Falcons in the game. She sent ten shots away for Fitchburg. Emma Gniadek got the win after not having to face a shot on goal. She improved to 6-5 on the season for the Owls.
