Becker Defeats Fitchburg State, 91-53

Knower leads Falcons with a team-best ten points in non-conference loss

LEICESTER, Mass. (December 2, 2010) – The Becker College men’s basketball team had five players score in double figures  as the Hawks defeated Fitchburg State University, 91-53 in non-conference men’s basketball action this evening.

Becker shot over 61.0 % from the field in the first half, taking a 53-27 advantage into the locker room. Junior Markus Wright (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) came off the bench to score a game high 18 points, while senior Trae Jacobs (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) and classmate Rajai Legett (New Haven, Conn./Sheehan) each scored 14 points.

Leggett was also strong on the board for the Hawks, coming within one rebound of his second straight double-double. Sophomore Terrell Shelton (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick) also chipped in on the Hawks offensive end, shooting 4-of-4 for 12 points on the night, while junior Terence Favors (Boston, Mass./Bedford) added ten points in Becker’s fifth victory of the season.

Fitchburg State struggled shooting on the night, hitting just over 29.0% from the field for the game. Senior Elliot Knower (Baldwinville, Mass./Narragansett) was the lone Falcons in double-figures, totaling ten points as he hit a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Junior Tom Henneberry (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) added nine points in the loss, while sophomore Adam Fahey (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) and junior Zach Valliere (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) each connected for seven points on the evening.

Fitchburg State (1-5, 0-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Saturday as it hosts Daniel Webster at 1 p.m. Becker (5-1, 0-0 NECC) will travel to Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
