Bridgewater State Shuts Down Fitchburg State, 85-61

Ingram-Rubin paces Falcons with a game-best 20 points

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 15, 2014) – Senior Mike Ingram-Rubin (Boston, Mass.) registered a game-best 22 points but the Fitchburg State men's basketball team fell to Bears of Bridgewater State, 85-61 in MASCAC action this afternoon.

Ingram-Rubin paced the Falcons, shooting 6-of-16 from the floor while collecting nine rebounds on the afternoon. Sophomore Anthony Muccioli (Nashua, N.H.) was the only other Falcon in double figures, scoring 13 points, while senior Mo Molin (Brockton, Mass.) chipped in with a near double-double of nine points and nine boards.

For the Bears, junior Michael Lofton (Mansfield, Mass.) led the way, totaling a team-best 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, while classmate Kyle Gibson (Franklin, Mass.) and Justin Clark (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) added 16 points and 12 points respectively.

After grabbing a nine point advantage at the break (42-33), Bridgewater State continued its momentum in the second period, posting a 15 point advantage just three minutes into the half. Gibson and Lofton combined for seven points in the opening surge for the Bears, while hot-shooting from Lofton throughout the frame (6-of-7) kept Bridgewater State on top all half.

For the game, Bridgewater State finished 29-of-61 from the field (47.5%), while connecting on 8-of-23 from downtown. Fitchburg State was held to just 38.2% shooting and connected on only 16-of-29 attempts from the charity stripe. The Falcons held a slim margin in rebounds (40-39), but finished just 4-of-12 from beyond the arc.

Fitchburg State will be back in action on Tuesday as it travels to Worcester State at 8 p.m.
