Ingram-Rubin brings in a team-best 20 points in Falcons conference setback

WORCESTER, Mass. (February 19, 2014) – The Fitchburg State men's basketball team traveled to Worcester State on Tuesday evening and fell to the Lancers, 79-66 in MASCAC action hosted by Nichols College.

For the Falcons, senior Mike Ingram-Rubin (Boston, Mass.) led the scoring, totaling a team-best 20 points with 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line. Classmate Mo Molin (Brockton, Mass.) was also strong, notching a near double-double for 13 points and eight caroms, while freshman Josh Ferreira (N. Dighton, Mass.) chipped in with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.

After one period of play, Worcester State grabbed a five point advantage (30-25), shooting nearly 42.0% with a 13-of-31 effort from the field. In the second half, the Lancers continued to shoot the lights out, hitting on 72.0% of their attempts. The Blue and Gold missed just seven shot throughout the period, while connecting on 6-of-9 attempts from downtown.

For the game, Worcester State controlled the glass, bringing in a 43-30 advantage on the boards, but Fitchburg State maintained its distance on the defensive end, causing 28 turnovers throughout the contest with 12 steals.

Four Lancers connected for double figures throughout the contest with Brendan Rios (Easthampton, Mass.) leading the way with a game-best 22 points. Senior Dane Jobst (Athol, Mass.) was also strong with a double-double effort of 14 points and 14 boards, while Paul Brooks (Arlington, Mass.) and Noris Cuevas-Nova (Amherst, Mass.) added 18 points and 13 points respectively.

Fitchburg State will be back in action on Saturday as it visits Westfield State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
