FSU Suffers 68-56 Setback to Owls

Lee records double-double in MASCAC loss

The Owls improve to 12-5 and 6-0 in the MASCAC, while Fitchburg State drops to 11-7 and 3-3 in conference play.
 
Fitchburg State ran out to an early 14-5 lead, and held an eight point lead, 24-16 after a Troy Dacosta layup with 6:14 to play in the first half.
 
Westfield battled its way back into the game with an 11-3 run, capped by a back-to-back three pointers from Westfield's Dan Johnson to grab a 27-26 lead with 2:37 left in the half.
 
Westfield boosted its lead to 24-29 at intermission.
 
The Falcons started the second half with a 7-0 run, to grab a 36-34 lead.
 
The two teams battled through long scoring droughts, finding the game tied, 46-all, after a pair of free throws by the Falcons' Kwame Lee with 5:56 to play.
 
Westfield then put the game away, as Andre King hit a three pointer, Grant Cooper scored a layup, and Johnson delivered a dagger three-pointer with 3:32 to play to give the Owls an eight point lead, 54-44 and eventually holding on for the victory.

Fitchburg was led by 14 points and 11 rebounds from Lee, and got 10 apiece from Jalen Williams and Leonny Burgos.
 
The Owls were led by 14 points each from Cooper and King, with Robby Jones adding 13 points and three steaks, while Johnson finished with 10 points, including the three clutch three pointers.
 
Westfield shot just 33% from the floor (18-54) while Fitchburg shot 34% (18-53). The Owls made 26 of 42 free throw's compared to Fitchburg's 18-23.
 
The Green & Gold will return to the hardwood on Saturday as they travel to Salem State at 3:00pm.
