Perez registers season best 28 points to lift Falcons to non-conference victory

Chicopee, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's basketball team defeated the Blazers of Elms College, 86-69 in non-conference action this evening at the Picknelly Arena.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State was paced by junior guard Jonathan Perez (Lowell, Mass.) with a game-best 28, six boards, two assists and two steals, while sophomore guard Tyrell St. John (Stamford, Conn.) collected 19 points, two caroms and one steal. Sophomore Nicholas Tracy (Indianapolis, Ind.) put forth a solid effort for the Green and Gold as well, notching nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block.

For Elms, sophomore forward Pablo Ortiz (Newington, Conn.) registered a team-leading 15 points six rebounds and one assist, while classmate Diomanni Fernandez (Tamarac, Fla.) chipped in with 13 points and two caroms. Freshman Michal Ohradka (Feeding Hills, Mass.) aided the Blazers offense, posting 12 points, five boards, three assists and one steal.

Inside the Numbers,

Fitchburg State shot 28-for-68 (41.2%) from the field and (4-of-24) 16.7% from beyond the arc.

Elms went 21-for-58 (36.2%) overall and (12-of-29) 41.4% from three point range.

The Falcons controlled the boards, holding a 50-39 margin on the glass, while the Blazers held a 20-15 margin in second chance points.

Just the fourth ever meeting between the two schools on the basketball court with the Falcons 2-2 all-time when taking on the Blazers.

Fitchburg State won the last meeting with Elms, registering a 91-65 victory last season (11/29/16) at the Parkinson Gymnasium.
