Falcons Fall At Williams, 106-56

Perez and St. John pace Falcons in non-conference setback

Williamstown, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's basketball team dropped a 106-56 decision to the Ephs of Williams College in non-conference action this evening at the John Wesley Chandler Athletic Center.

How It Happened

The two teams traded baskets to open the contest as sophomore Nicholas Tracy (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit a jumper for the Falcons, while senior Cole Teal (Chesterton, Ind.) connected on jumper for the Ephs (2-2).

Fitchburg State took an 11-7 advantage with just over 16 minutes left in the opening half on a trey by junior Jonathan Perez (Lowell, Mass.). With the score knotted at 15-15, Williams went on a 12-2 run capped by a trey from senior Mike Greenman (Linwood, N.J.) (27-15), en-route to taking a 56-31 lead into the locker room.

Following the break, The Green and Gold cut into the deficit as Tracy and senior Troy DaCosta (Cambridge, Mass.) connected on jumpers (61-36) before the Ephs polished off a 16-2 stretch on a layup by sophomore Matthew Karpowicz (Wellesley, Mass.) to extend the advantage to 78-38.

Fitchburg State responded with a bucket from junior Noah Fleury (Brockton, Mass.) and a pair of free-throws by freshman Anthony Allen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to make the score 85-44, but Williams put the game out of reach as Karpowicz answered with a basket of his own, resulting in the 106-56 final.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State was led by Perez with a team-best ten points and five rebounds, while sophomore Tyrell St. John (Stamford, Conn.) added eight points off the bench for the Green and Gold.

For Williams, junior James Heskett (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a game-leading 16 points and five caroms, while Teal added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Fitchburg State shot 23-for-71 (32.4%) from the field and (2-of-23) 8.7% from beyond the arc.

Clark went 35-for-60 (58.3%) overall and (11-of-26) 42.3% from three point range.

The Ephs controlled the boards, holding a 54-29 margin on the glass, while the Falcons finished with 34 points off the bench.

Just the second meeting between the two schools on the parquet with the Falcons 0-2 all-time when taking on the Ephs.

Williams edged Fitchburg State, 68-64 in the first meeting between the Falcons and Ephs on January 30, 2017.
