MASCAC Men’s Basketball Pre-Season Poll Announced
Falcons selected third in 2018-19 MASCAC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's basketball team has been selected to finish third in the 2018-19 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
The Bears of Bridgewater State University were chosen to win the 2018-19 MASCAC Men's Basketball title. The reigning MASCAC men's basketball post-season tournament champions received six of the seven first place votes, en-route to a total of 39 points to outdistance Salem State's second place total of 28 points.
The Falcons followed in the third slot with 25 points, while Worcester State University landed fourth in the preseason poll after amassing 19 points, which included the final first place ballot. Up next was the Owls of Westfield State in the fifth spot with 17 points.
Rounding out this year's preseason poll were MCLA and Framingham State University in the sixth and seventh slots with a total of 13 and six points respectively.
The Falcons will kick off the year this Thursday as they travel to Rhode Island College to take on the Anchormen in non-conference action, starting at 7:00 PM.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's first Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC core member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
