Jimenez-Fox nets double-double of 24 points and ten carom in non-conference setback

Biddeford, Maine – The Fitchburg State University men's basketball team suffered a tough 99-84 setback to the Eagles of Husson University this afternoon in the consolation round of the 2018 Hampton Inn Jim Beaudry Classic at the Alfond Forum on the campus of the University of New England.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State started the contest with a 14-2 run, keyed by five points from junior Nicholas Tracy (Indianapolis, Ind.) before Husson cut the deficit to 18-13 as sophomore DJ Bussey (Peoria, Ariz.) knocked down a three pointer. The Falcons responded with a three-ball of their own with junior Charles Doss (Fitchburg, Mass.) draining one from beyond the arc for the 24-16 edge.

The Green and Gold upped its margin (26-18) on bucket by Tracy, but the Eagles answered back, taking a 52-46 lead into the break after going on a 14-0 run to close out the half as sophomore Cole Thomas (Orlando, Fla.) hit a jumper to cap the scoring for Husson.in the first half.

Following the intermission, Husson upped its advantage (60-46) when senior Justin Martin (Winslow, Maine) hit a trey before Fitchburg State senior Jonathan Perez (Lowell, Mass.) connected a three-points to make the score 60-50.

Trailing 69-61 midway through the second half, the Falcons chipped away at the deficit as Perez netted five straight points (69-66), but the Eagles responded when sophomore Justin Thompson (East Middlnocket, Maine) buried a trey.

Fitchburg State cut the lead to 81-69 on a layup by junior Kameron Jimenez-Fox (Boston, Mass.), before Husson secured the victory with Thompson hitting yet another three-pointer, resulting in the 99-84 final.

By The Numbers

This afternoon's contest will mark the third meeting between the two squads on the basketball court with the Falcons 1-2 all-time when taking on the Eagles.

Fitchburg State defeated Husson, 107-99 on March 7, 2015 in the last matchup at the Newman Gymnasium.

The Falcons were paced by Jimenez-Fox with a double-double of 24 points and ten boards to go along with two assists and three steals, while Perez added 18 points, seven caroms, four assists and one steal.

For the Eagles, Martin finished with a game-best 25 points, ten rebounds, one assist, one steal and a pair of blocks, while Bussey chipped in with 22 points, three boards, two assists and one steal.

Fitchburg State finished 29-of-63 (44.4%) from the field, including (10-for-26) 38.5% from beyond the arc, while Husson shot 54.5% (36-of-66) overall and 12-for-24 (50.0%) from three-point land.

The Eagles finished with a slim 37-33 edge on the glass, while the Falcons held a 16-12 advantage in fast break points.
