Betancourt Selected MASCAC Men’s Basketball Rookie Of The Week

Tampa, Fla. native earns first weekly accolade of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State freshman guard Xavier Betancourt (Tampa, Fla.) was tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

The first-year Falcon earns his first weekly honor on the season after averaging 6.5 points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks per game in a 2-0 week for the Green and Gold.

Betancourt tallied one point, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in a 90-79 triumph over Clark University on Wednesday before adding 12 points as well as three caroms, two assists, five steals and three blocks in an 81-80 triumph against Dean College on Saturday.

The Fitchburg State men's basketball team (3-0, 0-0 MASCAC) returns to action tomorrow as it hosts the Anchormen of Rhode Island College at 6:00 PM.
