Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's basketball team fell to the Broncos of SUNY Delhi 85-79 in non-conference action on Thursday evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

SUNY Delhi took an early 13-7 lead with back-to-back three-pointers from junior Norman Wilson (Long Beach, NY) and freshman Pablo Quinones (Highland Mills, NY). Fitchburg State responded with four points from junior Tayjahn Joyner (Hadley, Mass.) to trail 17-16. Sophomore Kerns Monvilus (Coral Springs, Fla.) dropped a trey for the Falcons to keep it close at 23-21. The Broncos answered with a 13-0 run, including nine straight points from Wilson, to forge ahead 35-21. The Falcons chipped away with a 6-2 run to finish the frame, with Monvilus and sophomore Javon Taylor (Cambridge, Mass.) pouring in three points each.

The Falcons opened the second half with a pair of buckets from sophomore Quincy Taylor (Boston, Mass.) and a jumper from junior Darian Norwood (San Diego, Calif.) to cut the deficit to 47-42. With ten minutes to play, first-year Isiah Barnes (Elmont, NY) and Mavenson Therneus (Spring Valley, NY) hit consecutive hoops to extend the Broncos lead (63-51).  The Green and Gold kept it close with a pair of layups from Quincy Taylor and Javon Taylor to narrow the game to 75-69 with 2:19 to play but the visitors closed out the game with eight points from the charity stripe to seal the victory.

  • Fitchburg State was led by Quincy Taylor with a double-double, 17 points, and 16 rebounds. Monvilus added a team-high 22 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, and three steals
  • Wilson led all scorers with 27 points, while Therneus poured in 19 points and 6 rebounds for the Broncos
  • Fitchburg State went 32-for-66 (48.5%) overall and (7-for-17) 41.3% from three-point range.
  • SUNY Delhi shot 34-for-65 (52.3%) from the field and (6-of-21) 28.6% from beyond the arc.
