Falcons Drop MASCAC Season Finale to Westfield State

Fitchburg, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State University men's basketball team fell to the Owls of Westfield State 75-61 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at the Woodward Center.

How It Happened

Junior Dayne Allen (Revere, Mass.) notched six of the first ten points for the Falcons as the game was even (10-10) five minutes into the game. Back-to-back three-pointers from Kuany Teng forged the Owls ahead 22-15. The Green and Gold countered with a layup from Tajahn Joyner (Hadley, Mass.) and a pair at the charity stripe from Mikal Garcia (Fresno, Tex.) kept it close (29-25) however the Owls closed out the half on an 11-3 run to hold a 40-28 at intermission.

Fitchburg State continued to battle in the second half as Joyner hit a jump shot to cut the deficit to 44-34. Another big run by Westfield as the Owls extended the advantage (51-34) capped by a layup from Kumar Brown.  Following a Falcon timeout, Trevian Hinson (Tampa, Fla.) would hit eleven points for the Falcons to make it a 69-57 game with four minutes to play. The Owls closed out the match with a dunk from Brown to secure the 75-61 victory.

  • The Falcons were led by Hinson with 23 points, while Joyner added 15 points.
  • Allen chipped in with 6 points, 15 boards, 3 steals, and 4 blocks for the Green and Gold
  • Teng finished with a team-high 18 points and 5 rebounds for the Owls
  • Fitchburg State shot 25-for-73 (34.2%) from the field and (2-for-15)) 13.3% from three-point range
  • MCLA finished 30-of-62 (48.4%) overall and (6-for-15) 40% for beyond the arc
  • Falcons held a slim 43-41 margin on the glass
